If your child receives an IDEA or Section 504 designation, school staff will need to develop and follow a specialized education plan for them.

When scribing is designated in the student's Specially Designed Instruction (SDI's) the teacher or a teacher's aide will write a student's responses to a test or other evaluation as the student dictates. Each service must be approved by Disability Services and is generally tailored to the individual need of each student.Students who are deaf or have hearing impairments can utilize academic support services such as sign language interpreters, remote and real time captioning, or assistive listening services to ensure effective communication access and participation in UC Merced academic and campus programs.Scribing, like many other accommodations, are included in the IEP.Accommodations are permitted for both IEP and 504 students, since the support of an aide or teacher on content area testing does not detract from a student's ability to provide evidence of proficiency in a subject that is not specifically reading or writing.

Academic Support Services are planned in consultation with the student, faculty and other departmental staff as needed.
